- 2.3 _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__M_e_t_h_o_d
-
- All of the subsystems for the Netscape FastTrack Server can
- be installed using IRIX. You do not need to use the
- miniroot, however in order for the server to automatically
- configure itself you must reboot your system after
- installation. Refer to the _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n
- _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_o_r'_s _G_u_i_d_e for complete installation
- instructions.
-
- Important: If you are upgrading from a previous installation
- of the Commerce server see the section below
- about "Upgrade Installation Information" for
- important information about how to upgrade your
- security key.
-
- 2.4 _P_r_e_r_e_q_u_i_s_i_t_e_s
-
- The Netscape FastTrack server requires the Netscape
- Administration server to administer the server. This is
- located in the _n_s__a_d_m_i_n._s_w._s_e_r_v_e_r subsystem.
-
- 2.5 _C_o_n_f_i_g_u_r_a_t_i_o_n__F_i_l_e_s
-
- There are several configuration files in this product. The
- first is /_e_t_c/_c_o_n_f_i_g/_n_s__f_a_s_t_t_r_a_c_k which is controlled by the
- state of the _c_h_k_c_o_n_f_i_g command. The value is either on or
- off telling whether the FastTrack server should be started
- automatically on system reboot or not started and thus
- started manually.
-
- The next file is /_e_t_c/_i_n_i_t._d/_n_s__f_a_s_t_t_r_a_c_k which starts and
- stops the FastTrack server. It can be invoked manually or
- automatically when the system is rebooted. You shouldn't
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- - 3 -
-
-
-
- need to edit this file.
-
- All the other configurable parameters can be changed via the
- administration server.
-
- 2.6 _F_i_l_e_s__N_o_t__L_i_s_t_e_d__b_y__vvvv_eeee_rrrr_ssss_iiii_oooo_nnnn_ssss
-
- This version of the Netscape FastTrack server creates files
- and directories not listed by _vvvv_eeee_rrrr_ssss_iiii_oooo_nnnn_ssss. They mimic the _i_n_s_t
- config files in their behavior. When the new version is
- installed, it creates the following directories if the
- directory of the same name exists at time of installation:
-
- ////uuuussssrrrr////nnnnssss----hhhhoooommmmeeee////hhhhttttttttppppdddd----<<<<hhhhoooossssttttnnnnaaaammmmeeee>>>>....OOOO
-
- and
-
- ////uuuussssrrrr////nnnnssss----hhhhoooommmmeeee////aaaaddddmmmmsssseeeerrrrvvvv////hhhhttttttttppppdddd----<<<<hhhhoooossssttttnnnnaaaammmmeeee>>>>....OOOO
-
- If you have changed the configurations of your servers
- through the administration server GUI in the 'Server
- Settings' form, you will have to make those same changes in
- the servers newly installed.
-
- The following files are also installed if you had previously
- turned on access control for your server:
-
- ////uuuussssrrrr////nnnnssss----hhhhoooommmmeeee////hhhhttttttttppppaaaaccccllll////ggggeeeennnneeeerrrraaaatttteeeedddd....hhhhttttttttppppdddd----<<<<hhhhoooossssttttnnnnaaaammmmeeee>>>>....aaaaccccllll....NNNN
-
- and
-
- ////uuuussssrrrr////nnnnssss----hhhhoooommmmeeee////hhhhttttttttppppaaaaccccllll////ggggeeeennnnwwwwoooorrrrkkkk....hhhhttttttttppppdddd----<<<<hhhhoooossssttttnnnnaaaammmmeeee>>>>....aaaaccccllll....NNNN
-
- These files are the default access control files for the
- server. If you have turned on access control previously for
- your server of the same name, then you should not simply
- copy the '.N' files over your old ones. You will need to
- look at the respective files and edit according to your
- needs.
-
- 2.7 _G_e_n_e_r_a_l__I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__I_n_f_o_r_m_a_t_i_o_n
-
- This version of the Netscape FastTrack server comes pre-
- installed and pre-configured. The Netscape FastTrack
- server configures itself for running on port 80 with a
- document root of /_v_a_r/_w_w_w/_h_t_d_o_c_s.
-
- Important: This version installs its files in /_u_s_r/_n_s-_h_o_m_e
- so if you are upgrading from a previous
- installation that installed the Communications
- server in a different location see the section

- below about "Upgrade Installation Information".
-
- In the forms used to administer the Netscape server, there
- are two user accounts that are mentioned. One is a Unix
- user account and must appear in the /_e_t_c/_p_a_s_s_w_d file while
- the other is a Netscape Administration user and does not
- exist in the /etc/passwd file, but in the
- /usr/ns-home/admserv/admpw file. The Unix user account is
- the one used to run the server process and has a default of
- "nobody". If you use the "nobody" user make sure that the
- value of the user id and group id is 60001 and not a
- negative number.
-
- Customization of the Netscape FastTrack Server images
- requires the use of the Netscape Navigator as a graphical
- front end for the configuration process. If you are
- installing these images on a CHALLENGE S or other SGI server
- system you are required to have an X terminal or workstation
- with an X windows display capability accessible from the
- server.
-
- For more details on customizing and administering your
- Netscape FastTrack Server, see the FastTrackAdminGuide which
- is found in the Web Tools and Applications Icon Catalog
- pages.
-
- 2.8 _E_n_a_b_l_i_n_g__S_e_c_u_r_i_t_y
-
- Netscape FastTrack supports SSL security whereas the
- Netscape Communications Server did not.
-
- Once you have installed and configured your server you will
- then want to enable security. The administrative forms
- guide you along in the process, for further details see the
- "Introduction" and section 2.9 in these release notes and
- the chapter "Encryption and SSL" in the FastTrackAdminGuide
- which is found in the Web Tools and Applications Icon
- Catalog pages.
-
- Once security is enabled, every time you restart your server
- you must enter the Netscape FastTrack server password from
- your private key.
-
- 2.9 _U_p_g_r_a_d_e__I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__I_n_f_o_r_m_a_t_i_o_n
-
- If you are installing the FastTrack Server as an upgrade to
- the Netscape Commerce Server then see section 2.10.1,
- otherwise you can generate new keys to enable security.

- 2.9.1 _S_t_a_n_d_a_r_d__U_p_g_r_a_d_e If you are upgrading from a
- standard 1.12 Netscape Communications Server and you used
- the default server root of /_u_s_r/_n_s-_h_o_m_e then your new server
- will function properly as installed and once the server is
- restarted there will be no disruption of web access to your
- server only if you map the files in your old document root,
- /_u_s_r/_n_s-_h_o_m_e/_d_o_c_s by default, to /_v_a_r/_w_w_w/_h_t_d_o_c_s.
-
- 2.9.2 _U_p_g_r_a_d_e__P_r_o_c_e_d_u_r_e Prior to upgrading your Netscape
- FastTrack server you should stop the currently running
- server. If you have a 1.12 server do the following:
-
- #### ////eeeettttcccc////iiiinnnniiiitttt....dddd////nnnnssss____hhhhttttttttppppdddd ssssttttoooopppp
-
- If you have a 1.1.1 server do the following:
-
- #### ////eeeettttcccc////iiiinnnniiiitttt....dddd////nnnnssss____hhhhttttttttpppp ssssttttoooopppp
-
- otherwise stop the server by doing this:
-
- #### ////eeeettttcccc////iiiinnnniiiitttt....dddd////nnnneeeettttssssiiiitttteeee ssssttttoooopppp
-
- After completing the upgrade you should restart the server
- by doing the following:
-
- #### ////eeeettttcccc////iiiinnnniiiitttt....dddd////nnnnssss____ffffaaaassssttttttttrrrraaaacccckkkk ssssttttaaaarrrrtttt
-
- At this point your server will be up and running and able to
- accept web connections.

-
- This version of the Netscape FastTrack Server installs the
- product in the directory /_u_s_r/_n_s-_h_o_m_e. If you had
- previously installed the Communications Server's server root
- in an alternate location then the new server will not be
- able to access your old configuration files. Since the new
- server will not read your existing server's configuration
- files, this means that your existing web site will not be
- accessible immediately after the upgrade. If you wish to
- have this upgrade work properly then you must move your
- existing server root into /_u_s_r/_n_s-_h_o_m_e prior to performing
- the upgrade installation.
-
- Note: If you have already performed the upgrade without
- having moved your old server root, you need to
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- - 6 -
-
-
-
- perform the merging of the server configuration files
- from the old server root and the new server root.
- The new Netscape FastTrack Server 2.0 specific
- configuration files reside in /_u_s_r/_n_s-_h_o_m_e/_h_t_t_p_d-_8_0.
- Use the Netscape Admin Server to perform this merge.
-
- After the upgrade you should integrate your old server
- configuration into the new server configuration files. You
- may need to merge the _m_a_g_n_u_s._c_o_n_f, and _o_b_j._c_o_n_f in order to
- get your server running so that it can function properly.
- Any changed configuration files will end in either ._N or ._O.
-
- To help in locating configuration files that have changed or
- need merging you can use the command versions changed and it
- will list the files that have changes you need to merge
- together. This list contains changes for all products
- installed on your system, not just the Netscape FastTrack
- server.
-
- 2.9.2.2 _U_p_g_r_a_d_e__f_r_o_m__C_o_m_m_u_n_i_c_a_t_i_o_n_s__1_._0
-
-
-
-
-
- Since the Netscape Communications 1.0 Server installed it's
- files in /_v_a_r/_m_c-_h_t_t_p_d that effectively is a relocated
- server root to the new server and thus your existing server
- will not immediately function after the upgrade. You should
- manually reconfigure the new server to match your old
- server's configurations.
-
- After you finish the upgrade from Netscape Communications
- 1.0 server then you should remove the old files left behind
- from the original server installation. Make sure you have
- saved any server root or document root files you may have
- had in that location prior to removing the directory. You
- can remove the old files by doing the following:
-
- #### ccccdddd ////vvvvaaaarrrr
- #### rrrrmmmm ----rrrrffff mmmmcccc----hhhhttttttttppppdddd

- are upgrading a previously running Commerce Server you need
- to regenerate a key pair for your new server. Before you
- generate a new key pair file, you should turn off security
- in the server. This lets you restart the server without
- security just in case you have problems with the key
- generation.
-
-

-
-
-
- Note: You can continue using the old key files and
- certificate or you can delete them and run without
- security until your new certificate arrives. If you
- choose to use the old key files, you need to generate
- the new key pair file using a new filename. Be sure
- to remember this new file name, so that you can enter
- it later in the certificate request process.
-
- 2.10.2 _G_e_n_e_r_a_t_i_n_g__a__N_e_w__K_e_y__P_a_i_r To generate a new key

-
- 2.10.3 _R_e_q_u_e_s_t_i_n_g__a__R_e_p_l_a_c_e_m_e_n_t__C_e_r_t_i_f_i_c_a_t_e Verisign has
- agreed to replace old certificates free of charge as long as
- the information in the new certificate request is IDENTICAL
- to the information from your original request.
-
- Note: Be sure that when you request the new certificate
- from Verisign you use the new key and not the old
- one! If you removed the old key, this won't be a
- problem. If you kept the old key, make sure you enter
- the directory where you stored the new key.
-
- To request a certificate, use the "Request or Renew a
- Certificate" link from the admin server. Mail your
- certificate request to:
-
- nnnneeeettttssssccccaaaappppeeee----rrrreeeeppppllllaaaacccceeeemmmmeeeennnntttt----iiiidddd@@@@vvvveeeerrrriiiissssiiiiggggnnnn....ccccoooommmm

- will charge a processing fee if any of the characteristics
- has changed.
-
- Once the request has been mailed, Verisign will contact you
- by phone to verify that you sent the request. For security
- reasons, they will send the certificate to the email address

- of /_v_a_r/_w_w_w/_c_g_i-_b_i_n.
-
- At a minimum the following configuration must be
- established:
-
- +o Your document root must be /_v_a_r/_w_w_w/_h_t_d_o_c_s
-
- +o _c_g_i-_b_i_n must be mapped to /_v_a_r/_w_w_w/_c_g_i-_b_i_n and enabled
-
- +o Public html must be mapped to _p_u_b_l_i_c__h_t_m_l and enabled
-
- +o Server parsed HTML must be enabled and parse all .shtml
- files
-
- Future web-based products SGI ships will depend on a web
- server being able to access files within the document root
- and CGI directory specified above.
-
- By default /_v_a_r/_w_w_w/_h_t_d_o_c_s is writable by all users. If this
- is not what you want change the permissions appropriately.

- Then you may customize your Netscape server as discussed in
- the previous section. After you reboot your machine the
- Outbox server will be automatically turned off and the
- Netscape Server will take control.

- If you want to run the Outbox webserver on port 80 and the
- Netscape server on another port, you much type
